Christine Barnard appreciates Mr. Harlan Eernisse, a teacher at BURNSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL in Burnsville, MN

Mr. Eernisse was one of the best math teachers. In fact, he was one of the best teachers I ever had in high school, and he was my favorite. He helped me tremendously by encouraging me to stretch my goals. Because of him, I doubled up on math courses (who knew you could do that) and I finished my senior year by getting college credit for calculus. Burnsville High School had a large population of students (approximately 2700), but Mr. Eernisse made sure I was not lost in the crowd and I think he

Steve Millanes appreciates Ms. Karen Adams, a teacher at RIVERBANK HIGH in Riverbank, CA

Ms. Karen Adams was my high school math teacher. I believe I had her for Trigonometry. While I can't remember much about that class from 24 years ago I do remember how Ms. Adams made me feel. She made me feel like I was an important person in her class and at Riverbank High School. She did this by showing interest in my extracurricular activities as well as treating me like a young adult. I always felt like she was speaking to me as a mentor and not speaking down to me. In doing so, she set an

Randy Yumul appreciates Mrs. Benedetta Dalbesio, a teacher at SINALOA MIDDLE in Novato, CA

Looking back, I can't believe that Benedetta lent me the school bass and a book to learn over a summer so I could be in jazz band. That simple act of faith in me has led to now decades of playing bass, at churches, night clubs, coffee shops, and enjoying every minute of it. I had the absolute time of my life going to those jazz festivals, enjoying the great music and company of fellow music lovers and it's all thanks to Benedetta. Thanks for being such a great influence and a wonderful teacher!

Mark Abulencia appreciates Mrs. Benedetta Dalbesio, a teacher at SINALOA MIDDLE in Novato, CA

I’ll never forget when Benedetta approached me after the 5th grade talent show and said she looked forward to having me in band at Sinaloa Middle School the following year! The next 3 years in Concert Band and Jazz Band were life-changing. She inspired me and countless other students to become not only the best musicians we could be, but to strive to be decent humans, too. There are the teachers you remember, the teachers you appreciate, and the teachers that you wanna be like. She’s always been

Jovana White appreciates Mr. Maheu, a teacher at MIRA MESA HIGH in San Diego, CA

Mr. Maheu is a teacher with a big heart (If you have had his class or know him personally that statement will give you a chuckle). He works passionately to teach students the history of our nation. He does not sugar coat anything nor does he disregard important aspects of history that many school systems refuses to teach. He treats all students fairly and pushes us to strive for success. On A.P test day, Mr.Maheu provides us with smarties as a token for taking the time and liberty to study and

Mike Barnard appreciates Mr. Jim Lund, a teacher at CHASKA HIGH SCHOOL in Chaska, MN

Jim Lund was the physics teacher and theater director at Chaska High School while I was a student there. We was a great educator who helped students grow and make discoveries, both artistic and scientific. As a person, I admired his intelligence and his wit. I admired his problem-solving skills. I admired how observant he was and how he listened to people. He pushes people to perform to their potential and at the height of their intelligence.

Natalie Barnard appreciates Mr. Andy Powell, a teacher at CHASKA HIGH SCHOOL in Chaska, MN

The most influential teacher in my life was my high school teacher, Mr. Andy Powell. Before every class, he would spend the first 10-minutes discussing current events. With a warm smile and a light in his eye, Mr. Powell would enthusiastically ask us to share a story that we had read in the newspaper. It was a brilliant way to get us reading, get us talking, and ultimately get us thinking critically. He let us have a voice, gave space for opinions without being wrong or right. He engaged us with
